Disney Adventure Cruise Canceled After Boarding: Refunds, Hotels and What Comes Next

Singapore, May 10, 2026, 03:27 SGT

Disney Cruise Line abruptly called off a four-night Disney Adventure trip out of Singapore, blaming a mechanical problem that left the vessel stuck at Marina Bay Cruise Centre. Guests, who had already boarded, were made to leave after spending the night onboard. The cruise, slated for May 7 through May 11, never set sail.

Problems have hit the Disney Adventure just days after its Singapore launch, turning what might have been a simple missed departure into something bigger. The ship, Disney’s eighth and its first to operate in Asia, began sailing from Singapore on March 10. Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences, described it as a “brand ambassador” meant to drive the cruise line’s broader global efforts. The Walt Disney Company

Singapore stands to gain, too. Under a 2023 agreement, Disney Cruise Line will base the ship solely in Singapore for a minimum of five years. The Singapore Tourism Board expects the move could draw millions of cruise passengers—locals and visitors alike—during that stretch.

Passengers boarded the ship back on May 7, but departure never happened. The vessel sat in port as crews tackled a mechanical issue. According to a Disney spokesperson, the Disney Adventure didn’t set sail—the problem wasn’t resolved, so the trip got the axe.

Disney is giving guests hit by the disruption a full refund—including any unused prepaid services like internet and beverage packages—and tacking on a 50% discount for a future cruise. The company has thrown in a hotel night, shuttle service, and up to US$500 per stateroom to cover incidentals. Flight-change expenses for overseas travelers are being picked up as well, according to guest notices and media reports.

Some passengers ran into trouble right from the start. Maurice Ky, 35, told CNA Lifestyle there was a “power failure across the ship” after he boarded with his spouse and two children. Food and beverage outlets shut early while the vessel remained berthed in Singapore. CNA Lifestyle

Passengers only learned the sailing was canceled around 2:30 p.m. on May 8, when both the captain and cruise director broke the news, according to The Straits Times. By then, food and entertainment—including shows—had been running as usual, the paper noted.

Disney’s biggest vessel clocks in at around 6,700 guests, stretching across 20 decks and seven themed zones. For its Singapore run, the ship offers three- and four-night “cruises to nowhere”—no stops, just the ship itself as the draw. The Walt Disney Company

Disney’s fresh push into Asia cruising comes under the microscope after the incident, in a region where Royal Caribbean International, Resorts World Cruises, and Silversea Cruises have all set their sights on Singapore with longer-term homeport plans. Singapore logged 1.8 million cruise passengers from 340 ship calls in 2024, figures from STB show.

Timing is the wild card here. Disney hasn’t specified exactly what went wrong, leaving the May 11 Disney Adventure sailing as the first real indicator if the problem is isolated or about to affect additional bookings. No active advisories were posted on Disney’s public travel advisory page.

Disney pushed back the Disney Adventure’s inaugural sailing from December 2025 to March 10, 2026, blaming shipbuilding delays. Reliability now looms larger for guests who booked early voyages, and the postponement puts more heat on Disney’s strategy to spur cruise interest in Asia.
