Landman Season 3 Release Update: Paramount+ Hit Gets a Fast-Track Signal From Director Stephen Kay

Landman Season 3 Release Update: Paramount+ Hit Gets a Fast-Track Signal From Director Stephen Kay

Los Angeles, May 6, 2026, 09:03 PDT

Director Stephen Kay says Landman is in the editing room even as season three filming continues, a strong indication the Billy Bob Thornton-led series is pushing for a fast post-production cycle. Paramount+ still hasn’t shared a premiere date.

Timing is critical here: Landman has turned into a heavyweight for Paramount’s streaming lineup. A May 4 shareholder letter from Paramount flagged Landman as the most-watched series ever on Paramount+. Direct-to-consumer revenue climbed 11% in the first quarter, with Paramount+ fueling that gain at 17% growth.

Paramount+ has given Landman the green light for a third season following a strong Season 2 debut—over 9.2 million streams in just two days, the platform’s best launch for any original series to date. While both previous seasons landed in mid-November, Paramount’s official guide notes there’s still no release date for Season 3.

“We’re cutting while we’re shooting and so it’ll hopefully be out soon,” Kay told the crowd at The Hollywood Reporter’s Directors in Focus event. In industry-speak, “cutting” refers to editing the footage—normally a post-production job, after cameras stop rolling. TechRadar

The update comes after earlier reports described Season 3 as more than just a renewal—it’s actively moving forward. According to SlashFilm, filming is underway, despite some previous coverage suggesting production wouldn’t kick off until spring 2026.

There’s a clear drawback here: editing during production makes it tough to pin down a release calendar. Paramount hasn’t put out a Season 3 cast list or said how many episodes to expect yet, and their public notes still stick with a bare-bones statement—the next season streams exclusively on Paramount+.

Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, set in the thick of West Texas oil. In the industry, a landman handles deals with property owners—lining up leases for drilling or energy projects.

Season 2 saw Tommy stepping away from M-Tex Oil, shifting focus to CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle, his own outfit. Family members and close allies got pulled in, too, as Andy Garcia’s Gallino continued to cast a shadow over the financials.

Christian Wallace, the show’s co-creator, isn’t ready to call it quits. Speaking with CinemaBlend, Wallace said the story has “barely skimmed the surface” so far, pointing to a world he describes as “so rich” with potential for more. Cinemablend

Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris) told the outlet the show “wouldn’t run out of things.” Billy Bob Thornton said he’d stick with Tommy “as long as I’m able”—a plus for Paramount, which wants to keep this hit series on a roll. Cinemablend

Kay, speaking at a Deadline Contenders TV panel held in late April, pointed to the cast’s chemistry as a key factor behind the show’s impact, describing it as “a whole lot of heart.” On stage with Kay were Thornton, Sam Elliott, and Andy Garcia—the core of the show’s veteran appeal. Deadline

Paramount’s got plenty of competition. According to the company, The Madison pulled in 12.5 million viewers globally in its first month, while Marshals climbed past 18.5 million worldwide so far. That puts Landman squarely in the studio’s broader slate of Western-tinged and Taylor Sheridan-driven dramas.

So far, it’s a straightforward picture: Landman has its Season 3 order, cameras are rolling, and Kay’s schedule points to Paramount pushing for a quick turnaround. Late 2026 lines up with the show’s usual November debut, though Paramount hasn’t nailed down anything more specific yet.
